GF Flax Seed Tortillas

Who doesn’t love tortillas? You can put literally anything in them! They can be sweet, savory, or anywhere in between. I especially love tortillas when they’re made into tacos.

These are incredibly easy to make. They hold together well and don’t crumble and fall apart when folded.

These tortillas are made with a majority of flax seed flour. Flax seeds have many health benefits such as: lowering cholesterol, reducing inflamation, promoting healthy skin etc. They are also high in fiber and aid in digestion.

So you really can’t complain about these.

Let’s get to making them!

  • 1 1/2 cup flax seed flour
  • 2/3 cup of GF flour (I used Cup4Cup brand)
  • *Boiling water* approximately 1/3cup
  • 1tsp of salt

For a more spicy/flavorful tortilla add:

  • 2tsp of paprika
  • 2tsp of onion powder
  • 1tsp garlic powder
  • 1tsp of pepper

* Flax seed flour will not form into manageable dough and hold together if you use cold water. It must be hot water.
Combine dry ingredients into a bowl (skip spices if you don’t want the spice). Pour boiling slowly into dry ingredients. Only adding a little bit at a time.

Mix together until it forms into a ball. You may need to add more GF flour to it if it’s too sticky.

Put some GF flour on your hands and take small chunks of the mixture and roll them into smaller balls.

You now can roll them flat on a lightly floured surface*. You can use a rolling pin, but I find it easier to use my hands to flatten them. They don’t stick as much to your hands.

* you may add more GF flour as needed.

Once you have the tortillas made, you can cook them into a preheated pan with a little bit of oil.

They only take about 3 minutes to make and you should flip them halfway through.

You can now fill these with whatever you desire.

I chose to make Vegan tacos with them. I fried chic peas, red bell peppers, garlic, and carrots in olive oil and spiced them with paprika, cummin, onion powder for the filling. Then, I topped it all with fresh salsa, cilantro, and a squeeze of lemon.

So there you have it! Easy peasy GF tortillas and Vegan option for what to do with them. However, as I said before, these are your tortillas and you can put in whatever filling you want.

Let me more what you would put in them!

Have a lovely day!
